Our Mission

Our mission is to provide reliable and cost-effective Rare Earth free generation to the global renewables market.

In our journey to deliver a game-changing Rare Earth free generator, we have built and tested 3 separate prototype machines.

In June 2015 the team produced a three-stage 2kW proof of concept unit.

This was followed by a three-stage 75kW demonstrator that was tested at the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult in autumn 2017. The design was subsequently optimised to deliver maximum output for the lowest material cost and weight. Electromagnetic FEA results and designs were validated by Warwick Manufacturing Group.

In 2019 the team successfully completed a 250kW single stage prototype model, which was part of a four-stage 1MW design. This unit was initially tested at the ORE Catapult in August 2019. It was extensively re-tested in October 2021, again at the ORE Catapult, with grant support from the EU MaRINET2 Offshore Renewable Energy Testing programme. This re-testing was supported by Hitachi Metals Europe GmbH, who acted as the project sponsor.

“In most cases these Rare Earth magnets are used to make products, smaller, faster or lighter. The product that bucks this trend is a direct drive generator used within an offshore wind turbine. A single 15MW offshore wind turbine uses as much magnetic material as 5,000 electric vehicles. Offshore wind is particularly exposed to Rare Earth risk as supply chain shortages are forecast within the next 2 to 3 years.”
