The development of the GreenSpur generator

GreenSpur’s axial flux generator uses an innovative arrangement of magnets inspired by the Halbach Array concept. This design focuses the magnetic field towards the Airgap between the rotor and stator, enabling a twofold flux density increase in that direction. This allows GreenSpur to effectively use cheaper and weaker magnets, like ferrite, while maintaining the power and efficiency performance. Another benefit is that there’s almost no stray magnetic field on the rotor’s yoke side, which, further, simplifies the rotor’s structure and design. This specific magnet configuration most suitably assists to exploit the lower cost magnets, bringing their performance on a par with the stronger and less sustainable rare-earth alternatives.
